Oregon Department of Transportation has pulled off the unthinkable. A week ahead of schedule, both the Government Camp side and the Hood River side of Highway 35 will reopen to the public on December 9, 2006 at 5:00 a.m. Two lanes of pavement will welcome our guests and employees!
In case you're new to the scene, Highway 35 sustained serious damage from a "glacial outburst" and flood on November 7, 2006 cutting off access to Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Area. Crews have been working feverishly and non-stop to repair the highway which some said would take months to fix.
Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort will open at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday, December 9, 2006 for our guests skiing and riding enjoyment (I like saying that, can I say it a few more times?). We're also going to start our night skiing schedule on the same date. So, we'll be open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. this Saturday. Check out www.skihood.com for a full operating schedule. Later this week we'll announce the exact lifts which will be open. We've got a great base and will be opening with more lifts and terrain than ever for our first day of the season. Additionally, the Ski and Snowboard School, Children's Learning Center, Daycare, High Performance Center, Salomon Rental Center, retail shops, and restaurants will all be open for our guests. We'll be fully staffed at all departments and are very much looking forward to hosting you!
There are so many people to thank. Oregon Department of Transportation, US Forest Service, Federal Highways Administration, Tri-States Construction, Inc., our local, state, and federal elected officials, and of course our loyal guests and employees who have patiently waited for the work to be completed. We're having a special event called "Glacial Outburst" on December 16 and 17 to thank everyone and celebrate! Please try to attend!
I will post another blog before the weekend with more details. Please feel free to post a comment. Let the season begin! Thank you.
Dave
